I don't understand why a person thinking for themselves would choose Tim Hortons over the Petra's Or Wooden Frog down the street. Growing up in Tsawwassen, I spent much time hanging out with friends in Timmy's. It was time spent drinking chain-restaurant hot sugar water and eating slightly stale bagels, and I regret every moment. For a better idea of what it looks like I'll try to describe the average Tim Hortons experience: You stand in line for 15 minutes (it's rush hour, you start outside the door) and eventually make it to the cashier, he/she/they doesn't look very happy. You were supposed to order an Ice Cap but you realize you're hungry. 'Ok, Tim Hortons has food, I didn't enjoy it the last five times but they surely have SOMETHING - I'll try it again.' So you order your ice cap or coffee and food selection. You wait, they hand you it, then you turn around to scan for a seat but all you see is a sea of old people. Everywhere. Old people. Each one with their own double double, and not only are they sitting at every table but they are also just standing in random points throughout the room - some are moving, some are rolling up the rims of their coffee cups, but others just stare into blank space like some sort of NPC. 'I should have thought this through' you think, but right then there is, by chance, a parting in the waves. You glimpse - between the wrinkly skin - the sight of a seat, but with the passage of another body it is swallowed by the collective mass of bodies once again. 'I have to get there,' you think. You start to lose sight of the wall on the other side of the room, but you still remember the seats approximate location. You fill yourself with courage and enter the current, pushing through the bodies. This is by no means an easy task, but it's okay, you know these waters - the ebb and flow. You become one with the crowd. Mimicking a general movement and asserting a personal one at just the right times. All is well, you're halfway through, but then you hear "Twenty percent off donuts for the next hour!" from what you think is the direction of the cashier. Your heart is filled with fear. As the sound of the sentence travels across the mass it causes a wave like effect; you hear old people groan, shift, and notice bodies around you almost trembling from anticipation. The nature of the 'ebb and flow' of the currents changes completely, it starts to resemble a storm. Restless, unpredictable. You don't know what to do, you're halfway in with no safety rope to lead you back to where you came. You panic, but realize the futility. 'Clear your mind, find direction' you tell yourself. You breathe in, an unexpected body presses against your shoulder, pushing you off balance. You regain control by pushing further into the direction of the fall and squeezing between two elderly women, then quickly pulling your weight back. You let your fear flow through you, you know what you must do. You decide to go with the current, letting it take you where it wants to go. You ride the storm, giving it full control. You follow the movement, knowing it will push you out of it naturally. Eventually, you end up by your chair. When you sit down to eat your bagel you realize it is slightly stale, 'What was I expecting?'. Slightly shaken from the journey there, you start to wonder why you are there in the first place. With your bagel in hand, you start to ruminate about the nature of it all - questions like 'Is the curvature of this seat designed for uncomfort?', 'Are all Tim Hortons interiors the exact same on a molecular level as well?', and 'Why do they barricade the bathroom with tables and chairs every night?' start floating in your mind. You start to think the unthinkable, as if a rabbit hole of thought was unlocked in your brain. 'Can I spend my time in a better way?' 'Is it not better to opt out on Tims twice and enjoy a cup of coffee from a place down the road?', 'Do I follow the crowd wherever it goes?', 'Do I care about the decisions I make in my life?', 'Do I even have a human soul?'.

  • The service was great. Food was delicious and I enjoyed the access to Wi-Fi while I enjoyed my meal.

It is the slowest Tim Hortons I have ever been to. It's unreal how slow. However, it is clean and spacious.
